Have you seen ‘The Holiday’ with Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, Kate Winslet and Jude Law? Where a career-driven LA girl swaps her California villa with pool and automatic curtains with an ‘English Rose’ and her quaint but cold tiny cottage in the British countryside?

It’s not rare to think of Britain as somewhere with persistent rain, a distinct lack of its own cuisine but a great sense of humour to make it all okay… you wouldn’t be wrong about any of those things!

One thing that does seem very ‘British’ when we consider holidays, trips and travels, however, is the phenomenon that is holiday cottages.  Beautiful stonework, a stunning fireplace and tea on tap.  Unfortunately, holiday cottages are not renowned for their access and inclusion, but if you do have those needs and are thinking of holidaying in the UK, we at Invacare definitely have some disabled holiday cottages for you!

England – Peppers Barn

Peppers Barn offers quality disabled friendly self catering accommodation in the Leicestershire countryside near Loughborough in the East Midlands. It caters for the disabled guest and their family and is ideal for a relaxing holiday or respite break.

This high spec, energy efficient respite holiday home is designed for disabled guests to spend quality family time together with their close family. The light and airy self catering accommodation commands uninterrupted views over the Leicestershire countryside, providing a peaceful setting for the whole family group.

Wales – Bwthyn Creigiau

Just 10 minutes from the beach at Llansteffan on Carmarthen Bay and peacefully set amidst 6 acres with landscaped gardens, this welcoming easy access cottage offers space and tranquillity.

Bwthyn Creigiau is a converted barn and piggery dating back to 1780 when it was part of a traditional working farm. Original features such as vaulted ceilings, oak beams and exposed stone have been retained with added modern comforts such as underfloor heating and triple glazing. The cottage is welcoming, light and airy with a contemporary design and has several large French windows overlooking the gardens.

The main aim is to offer access for all and this extends to the grounds, filled with over 2500 herbaceous plants. Follow the paths as they wend round raised flower beds, the sensory garden, orchard and wild flower meadow carefully designed for the enjoyment of all our guests – as well as the wildlife they attract.

Scotland – Pitcairlie Lodge

Located just beyond the Grade B pillared entrance to Pitcairlie House and backed by pretty woodland, this delightful south-facing listed holiday cottage provides excellent self-catering accommodation for a family of four.

Pitcairlie Lodge offers convenient ground floor accommodation with disabled access suitable for wheelchair users or those with mobility difficulties.

One well behaved dog may be allowed in Pitcairlie Lodge at the owner’s discretion subject to a small extra cleaning charge of £25.

Northern Ireland – Strangford Bay Lodge

Strangford Bay Lodge provides a warm, stylish and relaxing home away from home for guests while they explore the Ards Peninsula. There are ground floor bedrooms ideal for disabled guests and an open plan apartment.  Guests can enjoy a comfortable stay, and ask for anything to suit their additional needs, which staff will do their very best to cater for.
