Tuesday 8th March is International Women’s Day (IWD). It’s a call for action aimed to accelerate women's equality. Whilst IWD has many missions to achieve this, here’s just a few examples within Invacare across Europe:
Women at work
When we have inclusive work cultures, women's careers thrive, and their achievements are celebrated. Leanne Casley, Production Manager for Pressure Area Care is just one of our many women at Invacare Europe who is #breakingthebias. We interviewed Leanne to see how she felt gender equality has progressed throughout her life and career and what hurdles she has faced:
"During my career in martial arts and then playing rugby, I would often hear unkind words from people who were obviously intimidated by my strength and determination. I constantly felt like I need to prove myself. I could have let them put me off, but I persevered and worked hard to reach my achievements. Everyone should believe from an early age that anything is possible, and gender should never hold you back. Women can bring different qualities to the workforce and with the correct guidance and role models, we can all reach our potential."

Women’s empowerment
We all look for inspiration. Catarina Oliveira, from Portugal, is one of our many European ambassadors who continues to inspire us. Catarina is a highly successful DJ, nutritionist, and an influencer on social media. She empowers people with disabilities and raises awareness of accessibility, especially women.

Women and sport
Known as Hurricane Hannah, our multi-gold medallist Hannah Cockroft MBE is a British sports person who claimed her 7th gold medal in 2021 whist participating at the games in Tokyo. There are many female athlete’s achievements worldwide worth celebrating but our Küschall ambassador Hannah Cockroft MBE is one of our many favourites. She is yet another great example of where Invacare’s “yes you can” motto rings so true.
