Designing good quality products are at the heart of Invacare’s innovative philosophy. Having been awarded 10 prestigious design awards from 2019 to 2020, it’s an understatement to say that we were delighted at our absolute success in the Focus Open this October.  

Attracting applications from an array of fields from investments goods right through to kitchens and across large companies to small enterprises, the Focus Open concentrates on pioneering and outstanding design and are one of the most renowned German design competitions of its kind with international positioning. With only 60 silver and 13 gold awards up for grabs, not only was it a remarkable achievement to be awarded 2 gold, but Invacare was the only company to have been given a double award that night! 

One award was for the Lyte patient lifter, which has new features made for services and a stylish design language that fits with people’s home interior. As Invacare’s first connected product, it’s set a milestone for starting to merge a portfolio of medical devices with smart home technology concepts.  

The other award was for the Küschall visualizer which allows people to create, customise and share their own Küschall wheelchair design. As one of Invacare’s two product configurators, it allows customers to better interact with our products in today’s digital world.  

Frank Steinmeier, Vice President of Research and Development at Invacare EMEA who attended the event with UP Design partner Stefan Lippert said “The award ceremony features really great products. To be invited on stage for the second time was an overwhelmingly proud moment. We clearly impressed the jury and audience with several people approaching me after offering their congratulations and wanting to know more about Lyte and our Küschall configurator. Its motivated me even more to proceed with what we are doing and the many great ideas already in the pipeline”.
